Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

Main work party at Electricity Pool with Chris and Mark on Sunday. I will be putting some steps in at Walden. If you decide to come along to help please bring a pick / shovel / mattock / sledge and some crib. Be good to see anyone at a loose end smile

Nice one Simon - some plants would be welcome but we had better check with Si at Polgreen first. Be good if we could get a few others going over to help. Bobs bro is welcome to turn up to work party this week if he wants. Should have lots there, the times they are a changing!

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

Hey no problems, Spoke to Mark last night and said what may be on the cards for our little work party, and all's a go go for next weekend, If someone can contact Simon at Polgreen for me and just let him know that we'll be there early next sunday morning will be great, I've only got me a small escort van at the moment but will still be able to load her full of plants etc. Are we still pulling from  the same lake as last time?????. Are the pads etc located somewhere else???. I have found a lake near me that is choca with pads etc , but am I right in saying that they need to be quarantined for 48 hours before putting into a new lake???. If anyone else wants to join us feel free, I think the more vans etc we can get there the more planting can be taking place around our beautiful lakes. Colon where abouts do you want these plants left when we bring em back t the lakes?????

Ok all have a good weekend and hopefully will see some of you sexy beast's next week.

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

Another successful work party with around 15 attending and much work completed under the watchful eye of lake wardens Staetler and Waldorf - both resplendent in chest waders.

The fence around the lake was finished and what a professional job it is thanks to Ian and Dave T and various helpers. If its a quick erection you want ladies then HBS Erection Services are the ones to chose. Hoskin, Bazeley and Spindley got it on and got it up in the Pug. On the other side of the lake O'Grady and Dewson adopted a longer lasting approach and while perhaps they didn't get as much completed what they did get done was sheer quality and should last forever.........now I'm not saying the others had a "Slam, Bang, thank you Ma'am approach but Darren does have a bit of a reputation in St. Columb and it's suburbs where the ladies call him "Fast Darren" and that's not for his sprinting capabilities.............. Ollie sawed, Biscuit planted out, Andy hammered and Ian W watched, chatted and drank tea while others worked and another successful day came to an end. The support the committee gets nowadays leaves me lost for words and totally humbled. To cap it off Mark B arrived at the end to check things out - he had been at the official work party at the Electricity Pool!!!!

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

Hello Simon, you are the man mate, great news you can get some plants for us.
I will try and call Simon but he he impossible to get hold of.
I think you can just turn up and knock on his door and the same pool as last time should be ok unless he says different.

I am planting out Rashleigh behind the top island so if you can put them right in the far corner where the water comes in that would be great, just dump them in the stream.
Give me a call if you are not sure.

Im trying to get some more people there to help. Also if you can get lily get as much as you can, we have so much planting to do you can never get enough

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

One of the major undertakings of the last few months has been the construction of the walkway around the road bank at Wheal Rashleigh. Due to a variety of factors such as inclement weather, other commitments and so on it has stuttered and started and stopped a bit. Having said that it is a hell of an undertaking as the walkway covers a length of around 100 metres from start to finish through very boggy and undulating terrain. It is an area which has always been a H&S hazard and a major obstacle to anglers wishing to fish the Catch 22 bank - especially during matches.

I am pleased and proud to announce that yesterday it was all but finished thanks to the incredible efforts of James Coombes and Mick Freeman. Coombsie gets little time to go fishing these days, what with his young family and work commitments but yesterday he gave up a whole day to do the bizzer. I am not sure what else I can say about Mick Freeman. The amount of work he does for the club is unbelievable and it must cost him a small fortune travelling up from Blackwater to help us out a couple of times a week. He is one of the main reasons why the club has continued to progress as it has over the last year or so. Thanks to both of you guys - how inadequate is that for all you've done!

The walkway even got a lick of the dreaded non slip to finish it off and make it safe and ready for the match today. There's a little tidying up to do and a bit of cutting in needed to form a path between two sections. When Colin has worked his planting magic it should be looking good. Blame him if you get a Gunnera thorn up your jacksi when bending over.

Thanks are also due to John Shelton for his efforts in painting the platforms on the new bank at Walden along with the bridge and a part of the walkway at Rashleigh. A great effort from one so young. Good to see the sea section mucking in and helping out again.

You can show your appreciation for what these guys have done for the club by helping out at the next work party at Treskilling.

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

A strange day really, Gert was keen to get some posts driven in and get the rails for the walkway set out, Things kinda went smoothly and in no time Gert, Coombsie and me-self had reached our target, so while we had the enthusiasm we pressed on.
Coombsie hammered, I cut and Gert carried as fast as his little legs would carry him.
After both flasks were empty and coombsies food stash in his van had been devoured we had done all the timber work on that last section. We stood round for a few minutes patting each others backs and seeing who had the soggiest boots ( think I won that one) and thought about home, except Gert!
Knowing there was a match on Rashleigh the next day, Gert decided it would be easier if the walkway was painted before anyone had walked on it, which made sense but my empty belly and trench foot was playing on my mind, Coombsie escaped and in all fairness I could have left too, but what the hell we got this far lets finish the bloody thing ready for the guys fishing the match.
Gert appeared with white surgical rubber gloves on, I naturally panicked and sat down quick like! then the roller and green paint come out.
He was off, so grabbing the spare roller we got heads down arses up and got the first coat on, I have used some different paints over the years and gotta say that green stuff is horrible to use! So hats off to them others who have contributed to the painting of the walkways and platforms, tis a shit job!
By about 6 o clock the second coat was finished and Gert had a strange green glow about him, especially around his face? Think he may have been eating that green paint! But job done! So we walked off with happy smiles on our faces (one green) knowing that anglers could get to their pegs on Sunday without SAS training.
There still some work to be done there to finish off but the worst is done and though being a long hard day, again it was fun and fulfilling.
God bless her and all who walk on her..

                                                 Halfday..

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

I understand we have had some "guests" fishing at Walden. They have been told it is a private water and for Roche AC members only. If you see anyone you don't know, especially when there is no car in the park please ask to see their membership card. If they can't produce one then ask for the gate code. If they don't know it then politely ask them to leave. If they refuse please don't get involved but notify a committee member who will deal with the situation. Let's nip this one in the bud.
Thanks.
Dave

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

Cleaned the two platforms in the Pug ready for painting later in week. It would be appreciated if you could avoid using these for a couple of days until painted. Sorry for any inconvenience and thanks to John S for his help.

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

Two platforms in the Pug painted today. That's all the platforms in Walden painted with non slip or meshed along with the walkways and bridges in Rashleigh and Walden. Thanks for your cooperation while this work has taken place.

Work Party at WR tomorrow. Burning some rubbish, improving paths, steps and general access to swims. It would be good to see a decent turnout.

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

Decent turnout - over a dozen which enabled us to get most of the planned work completed. The pathway at the concrete end was reinstated and is now much easier and safer to use. At the road end of the lake the sections between the boardwalks were dug out / built up and generally levelled. Three trailer roads of manure was used to mulch around the plants, cuttings and rushes. Some work was also done on the steps to Pug Bay. This work is helping improve the lakes for everyone and it would be great if everyone could help by doing their bit - if just for a couple of sessions each year. Approximately 5 hours out of your annual allowance of 8760 hours. If no one did anything we wouldn't have a club.

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

The official work party this weekend is at Electricity Pool. Chris, the warden, has enough to help him. There will also be some work going on at Waldenn involving replacing steps. If we have enough turn up we might be able to get some burning done at Rashleigh. Shovels, sledge, lump hammers for Walden, Loppers, bow saws, chain saws and kindling for Rashleigh. Hope to see you there. You can see how the rhodo removal is going.

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

We more or less got rained off today and didn't complete the work we would have liked to have done. However, we did manage to get new the steps down to the stables lane swims completed and thanks to Ukelele Joe the original steps are in the process of being repaired. Pity we didn't do this earlier if I am honest. It would have made it much easier for those fishing there.

September work party we will be on Rashleigh burning some of the rhodo that has been cut down and windrowed. This will make follow up spraying easier and will allow us to replant sooner. This in turn will enable Rashleigh to get back to looking her best. Hoping for a good turnout to help get the Old Girl back to normal. Loppers, saws, chainsaws, kindling etc.

Re: Rashleigh Walden Work Parties 2010

Similar story over at Elec Pool to be honest, but with a turnout of 5 or so we were able to completely strim/cut and chop back the whole of the lane which is lovely and tidy now. A good proportion of the banks on the pool itself were also strimmed nice and tidy. Well done all and thank you smile.

Mark
